City Lights Dance Ensemble

City Lights Dance Ensemble is a performance based company focused on extending their dance education. CLDE classes are structured by a written curriculum that is broken down into four groups- Nova, Orion, Cygnus & Phoenix. Our company members have performed at numerous competitions, local benefits, and volunteer performances at senior centers. They have had the opportunity to study under some of the best teachers and choreographers on the East Coast including Al Blackstone (So You Think You Can Dance), Mike Minery (Operation Tap), Beth Woods (former Radio City Rockette), and Lane Napper (Nickelodeon's Victorious).

NOVA

Nova in Latin means “new star” and signifies a sudden brightening of star. In translation to our curriculum, students in this strand are showing interest in committing to a more intense training in dance. The class structure provided follows the concept of a “pre-professional company” in which they have an experiential glimpse of what it is like to take multiple classes in a week with a demand on demonstrating growth.

In this strand, students will focus on setting the foundation for the following:

  • Class discipline and expectation at a “professional” level

  • Basic dance vocabulary

  • Basic concepts in core engagement and whole body use

  • Importance of Musicality

In translation to our curriculum, students in this strand are provided a clear and consistent dance training to set a solid foundation in basic technique and vocabulary. Having a stable basis is crucial in the ability to progress into intermediate and advanced concepts.

  • Use and activation of rotation

  • Arm positions and involvement

  • Coordination and engagement of whole body in movement

Basic will be brought to an intermediate level of execution while adding definition of qualities and dynamics in movement. Cygnus is the introduction to artistry in dance.

In this strand, students will focus on consistency in the execution of the following:

  • Spinal alignment

  • Use and activation of rotation

  • Arm positions and involvement

  • Coordination and engagement of whole body in movement

PHOENIX

Phoenix signifies beauty and strength as a mythological bird that rises from its own ashes. In translation to our curriculum, students in this strand are provided a clear and consistent dance training to execute and embody a solid foundation in technique and vocabulary at an advanced level while discovering their own beauty and strengths. Artistry in movement and choreography will be stressed along with self-expression and connection.

In this strand, students will focus on embodying the execution of the following:

  • Core alignment

  • Spinal alignment

  • Use and activation of rotation

  • Arm positions and involvement

  • Coordination and engagement of whole body in movement
